ARCHIVAL RESOURCES
The Museum is happy to provide researchers with access
to the original photographic and archival information in its collections.
To guarantee that a staff person will available to assist with research,
researchers should notify the Museum of their visit at least one
week prior. The Museum can provide copies of archival materials
and of photos in response to telephone or mail requests. We can
assist with some research questions but, due to the small size of
the staff, cannot provide extensive research assistance.
Archival Resources
The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave has an archives
of letters and papers associated with Buffalo Bill’s life
and the Wild West shows. These include such rare items as an account
about the Ghost Dance by Short Bull, one of its leaders among the
Lakota; an original play script from Buffalo Bill’s acting
days (before the Wild West); correspondence between Cody and General
Miles pertaining to Sitting Bull; and papers associated with Buffalo
Bill’s businesses.
Researchers wishing access to these files must make the request at least three days in advance.
